Assignment:
Design and illustrate a poster that reflects the mood and feel of the short film ’Søvngængeren’ (The Sleepwalker).

Creative solution:
I was briefed on the general themes of the film. The movie is largely about how a garden gnome slowly changes the life of the main character by symbolically breaking up the foundation of his otherwise very normal life. These themes of mystery, a threatening force and the breaking up of his ordinary life came together in a quite simple illustration.

The garden gnome was shown as a looming mountain in the background, forcing its way into his life. The house, suspended and falling apart in mid air, depicted his own inevitable change. The whole piece came together as a reflection of the threatening nature of change in life, while the colors and softness of the shapes maintained a more lighthearted and calm feeling that the film emits.

Result:
The poster was shown at multiple occasions during the release and showing of the movie. Also it received praise from the people involved for being both beautiful and at the same time capturing the spirit of the short film.
