This poster was a gift for a person close to me.
The poster is made with inspiration from classic Drew Struzan posters, although the illustration and setup has very much its own distinct look. The main headline though ‘Return of the Jedi’, is set up exactly as the original poster, to give it a bit of nostalgia.
The background consists of approximately 5 or 6 layers blended together to get the ‘old paper’ effect just as I wanted it. Also, I wanted to make the illustration as a whole seem lively and bright. I found that if the illustrations, headline and basically all that’s on top of the background was just one color, it all seemed flat. This was solved, by making all these elements fade, from dark purple on the left, to an almost bright pink in the right side. This provided a sense of depth to an otherwise flat image.
The final piece was printed on matte 180 g offset paper and mounted on a 5 mm foamboard.
