Assignment:
A bed & breakfast rental approached me with the task of designing a classic postcard for their bed & breakfast service.
The brief was to create a postcard so interesting, that people would feel enticed to share it with their friends. Ideally enough so, that they would share it with their friends or go online and look at the website of the bed & breakfast.
Process:
When people bring or give postcards to other people, it’s mainly because of one of two things. Either it’s really really funny. Or it’s pretty enough to hang on the refrigerator. In my solution I went with the latter. Searching high and low with a camera, I went through every inch of the bed & breakfast. Looking for structures, artifacts, lights and basically pretty things in general. The result was a catalogue of 250 pictures.
Creative execution:
In the end, five pictures made it to the final postcard.
It revealed, not how the bed and breakfast looked as a whole, but how it felt up close. This way, the postcard inspired curiosity and hopefully persuaded the bed & breakfast feeling well enough to get people online.
